I woke up early today. The plight of many people my age. I could have laid there in bed and tried to go back to sleep, but I figured it was Christmas. Get on up boy, this is a good day. I went to the tea box and lying behind it was a horseshoe.
What, you don’t have horseshoes sitting in the cabinet or on the table where you store your tea or coffee? Well, neither do I. It was placed there by a three-year-old’s little hands. I guess she grew tired of trying to stick it on everyone’s head believing it was a headband. She had no idea the horseshoe was an old-time symbol of good luck when hung on the wall with the open side up.
Today we celebrate the birth of our Savior which is without question good luck for us. But it’s not luck. In that manger God gave the world His love. A love so great that all the hate, vengeance, despair, and vileness of the world wither in its presence. I pray you feel that presence welling up inside you today until there is no room for anything but God’s love and peace. For today so many years ago the kingdom of God stepped into our world and hope is now everlasting.
Think my granddaughter had it right. The horseshoe is better suited as a headband than as a symbol of hope for good luck. Don’t need those anymore; we got the real thing. Merry Christmas everyone.
Many blessings to you all this wonderful day!
Dave
